Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Dear travel diary;

Today I find myself visiting the volcanic castle of San Jose in Lanzarote Canary Islands.  This Mediterranean castle was built out of volcanic rock in 1799.  This castle protected the harbour and entry to the city.  The locals also nick named it the "Hunger Castle" because the inhabitants of the city at that time were starving from a lack of work and money.  The ruling King Carlos III purposely built the castle for both protection and to give the community employment.  Sounds like it was a worth wild project....good job King Carlos III!

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

Dear travel diary;

Today I find myself walking through the Museo Canario in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands.  This little Spanish island holds a gem of a museum displaying Canary archaeological objects and state of the art technology.  From dinosaurs to fighter jets!  A must see for every gnome in the Mediterranean.

The Art of Tenerife, Canary Islands

Dear travel diary;

I've spent a fair amount of time walking around the small island of Tenerife.  I have discovered some interesting things here, but the most impressive is the art and statues that litter the island.  The big face statue....that is a little creepy, but the rest are nice.

The Black Pyramids of Guimar in Tenerife, Canary Islands

Dear travel diary;

After some wandering around the small island of Tenerife, I have discovered the Black Pyramids of Guimar.  These small pyramids are made out of volcanic rock around the 19th century (there is some debate about when they were really made and even why).  For a pyramid, they aren't too tall, even to a small garden gnome.

Tenerife, Canary Islands

Dear travel diary;

Today I find myself climbing the mountain trails of little island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.  This little Spanish island is on big volcanic mountain, covered by trees.  It's like one great big garden!  It has taken me all day to climb the mountain but the view is worth it.  Especially the one mountain peak that looks like a boob!  You got to love this island!

Sincerely Nestor the Gnome.
